Skotina(Greek:Σκοτίνα) is arural settlementof the former municipality ofEast Olympos,itself part of the municipality ofDion-Olympos,in thePieriaregional unit,Central Macedonia,Greece.
Name
[edit]The name is taken due to handmade costumes (woolen fabrics, handmade costumes), which were made in the region that made the cloaks and the sails for sailing ships of the era.
Geography
[edit]The village is built on the southeastern edge of themount Olympus,32 km from the city ofKaterini,and has a view towards theThermaic Gulf.Ancient places nearby areHerakleion(4 km) andLeivithra(2 km).
Population
[edit]The community of Skotina had a population 857 inhabitants as of 2021.[1]The community consists of the settlements of Skotina,Paralia Skotinasand the nowadays uninhabited Palia Skotina.[2]
