South Riveris a 16.9-mile-long (27.2 km)[1]river inCaroline CountyinVirginia,United States.It is atributaryof theMattaponi River.
Rising at the boundary between Caroline County andSpotsylvania County,the South River flows east, passing underU.S. Route 1andInterstate 95,joining the Mattaponi north ofMilford.Via the Mattaponi andYorkrivers, the South River is part of theChesapeake Baywatershed.
