Stephon Javonte Castle(born November 1, 2004) is an American professionalbasketballplayer for theSan Antonio Spursof theNational Basketball Association(NBA). He playedcollege basketballfor theUConn Huskies.He was a consensus five-starrecruitand one of the top players in the 2023 class.
Early life and high school career
[edit]Castle grew up inCovington, Georgiaand attendedNewton High School.[1]He averaged 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game as a junior.[2]He finished his senior year averaging 20.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, three steals and two blocks per game to carry the Rams to the Class 7A state quarterfinals.[3] Castle was selected to play in the2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Gameduring his senior year.[4]
Recruiting
[edit]Castle was initially rated a four-starrecruitby most recruiting services. On November 19, 2021, he committed to playing college basketball forUConnduring his junior year over offers fromAuburn,Arkansas,Georgia,Georgia Tech,andOhio State.[5]By the end of his senior year Castle had been re-rated as a five-star recruit.[6][7]

[edit]Castle enrolled atUConnin June 2023.[8]He declared for the2024 NBA drafton April 19, 2024.[9]
Professional career
[edit]San Antonio Spurs (2024–present)
[edit]On June 26, 2024, Castle was selected with the fourth overall pick by theSan Antonio Spursin the2024 NBA draft[10]and on July 2, he signed with the Spurs.[11]
Castle made hisNBA Summer Leaguedebut on July 6, putting up 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists in a 97–65 loss to theCharlotte Hornets.[12]
National team career
[edit]Castle played for theUnited States under-18 basketball teamat the2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship.[13]He averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game as the United States won the gold medal.[14]
Personal
[edit]Castle's father, Stacey, was a teammate with Tim Duncan at Wake Forest during the 1993-94 season.[15]
