TheYouTube Streamy Awards,also known as theStreamy AwardsorStreamys,are an awards show presented annually byDick Clark ProductionsandTubefilterto recognize excellence in online video, includingdirecting,acting,producing,and writing. The formal ceremony at which the awards are presented takes place inLos Angeles, California.[1]They were the first ever awards show dedicated entirely toweb series.[2]
History
[edit]The Streamy Awards were created by Executive Producers Drew Baldwin,Brady Brim-DeForestand Marc Hustvedt ofTubefilterand Joshua Cohen and Jamison Tilsner of Tilzy.tv.[3][4]
The winners of awards in over 30 categories,[5]including the Audience Choice and Visionary Award, were announced for the first time on March 28, 2009, at the1st Annual Streamy Awards.Winners of the 1st Streamy Awards included individual recipients (Best Male and Female Actor), andweb series.Each year, certain awards are presented before the main ceremony at the Streamys Craft Awards.[6]
The2nd Annual Streamy Awardswere hosted by actor/comedianPaul Scheerand streamed live online from theOrpheum Theatreon April 11, 2010. The production experienced technical problems and interruptions due to people streaking the stage and interrupting the presenters. This show incorporated an online live internet streaming broadcast.[7][8]Due to poor reception and execution of the show, theInternational Academy of Web Television(IAWTV) halted its partnership with Tubefilter and co-production of the award ceremony and formed their ownWeb TV awards presentation.[9]
In 2011, Tubefilter entered a partnership with established entertainment industry awards show producer Dick Clark Productions (producers of theAmerican Music Awards,among others) to co-produce the3rd Streamy Awardswhich were held in 2013 at theHollywood Palladiumin Los Angeles, and livestreamed across YouTube and multiple streaming networks simultaneously.[10]
The5th Streamy Awardswere broadcast live onVH1on September 17, 2015, and hosted byGrace HelbigandTyler Oakley.[11]
The6th Streamy Awardswere hosted byKing Bachand was broadcast live onYouTubeon October 4, 2016, fromthe Beverly HiltonHotel.
The7th Streamy Awardswere hosted byJon Cozartand was broadcast live onTwitteron September 26, 2017, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.[12]
The8th Streamy Awardswere hosted byThe Try Guysand was broadcast live on YouTube on October 22, 2018, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The9th Streamy Awardswas broadcast live on YouTube on December 13, 2019, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It was the first Streamy Award ceremony to run without a host.[13]
In 2020,YouTubeacquired the naming rights to the Streamy Awards.[14]
The10th Streamy Awardswere broadcast on YouTube on December 12, 2020, and were hosted by drag queensTrixie MattelandKatya Zamolodchikova.To adhere to social distancing restrictions, the duo presented the awards on aparty busbeing driven around Los Angeles.[15]
The11th Streamy Awardswere broadcast on YouTube on December 11, 2021. They were hosted by American YouTuberLarray,alongsideIssa Twaimz,once again being driven in a party bus around Los Angeles.
The12th Streamy Awardswere held on December 4, 2022, atThe Beverly Hiltonin Los Angeles and were hosted by the YouTuberAirrack(known in real life as Eric Decker), and also featured a performance byYung Gravy.
The13th Streamy Awardswas held on August 27, 2023, atThe Beverly Hiltonand was hosted byMatPat.[16]MrBeastwon Creator of the year for the fourth year in a row.[17]
