Stuart James Gardiner(born 19 March 1947) is aSouth Africanformercricketer.
Gardiner was born atBlomfonteinin March 1947. He made his debut infirst-class cricketforOrange Free StateagainstGriqualand WestatBlomfonteinin the1967–68 Currie Cup.He played first-class cricket for Orange Free State until the 1973–74 Currie Cup, making 25 appearances.[1]Playing as a left-armmedium pace bowler,Gardiner took 98 wickets in his 25 appearances for Orange Free State, at anaverageof 22.84 and best figures of 6 for 49.[2]These figures, one of fivefive wicket haulshe took, came againstNorthern Transvaalin the 1972–73 Currie Cup.[3][4]As a lower-order batsman, he scored 485 runs at abatting averageof 17.96 and a high score of 40not out.[5]Gardiner also made a single first-class appearance for a Combined Section B XI againstD. H. Robins' XIin January 1973.[1]He also playedList A one-day cricket,debuting for Orange Free State againstEastern Provincein the1970–71 Gillette Cup.He made five List A appearances for Orange Free State, as well as making a single appearance for Northern Transvaal in the1974–75 Gillette Cup.[6]
He later studied in England atSt John's College, Cambridge.[7]While studying at Cambridge, he made eight appearances forCambridge Universityin 1978,[1]in addition to making two appearances for theCombined Universities cricket teamin the1978 Benson & Hedges Cup.[6]
