Suqualena,also spelledSookalena,[1]is anunincorporated communitylocated in centralLauderdale County,Mississippi,United States, located approximately 9 miles (14 km) northwest ofMeridianonMississippi Highway 494and is part ofMeridian, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Suqualena is named afterSuqualena Creek,which is derived from theChoctaw languagewords meaning either "creek on whose banks are camps" or "poor hog".[2]The community had a depot on the Meridian and Memphis Railway.[3]
In 1921, Suqualena was served by a two-year school.[4]
Suqualena was once home to a 675-acre plantation.[5]
A post office operated under the name Sookalena from 1851 to 1860.[6]
Suqualena is served by the Suqualena Volunteer Fire Department.[7]
