Joan Susan Vernon Partridge(12 September 1930 – 4 December 1999) was a Britishtennisplayer.[1]
Biography[edit]
Partridge, born inShropshire,was the juniorWimbledonrunner-up in 1949, before going on to compete with success internationally during the 1950s and 1960s.
A BritishWightman Cupplayer in 1952, Partridge switched to representing France following her 1953 marriage to tennis playerPhilippe Chatrier,from who she later divorced.[2]
One of her best performances was at the1952 Wimbledon Championships,where she troubled the second-seededMaureen Connollyin the round of 16, going down 5–7 in the third set. She also reached the semi-finals of the women's doubles, partneringJean Rinkel-Quertier.[3]
In 1953, competing as Sue Chatrier, she won France's national championships and was a singles quarter-finalist atRoland Garros,again pushing Connolly to three sets.[4]
