Susan Kaying Pha[1](/pɑː/PAH)[2]is aHmong-Americanpolitician and businesswoman serving as a member of theMinnesota Senatefor the 38th district. Elected in November 2022, she assumed office on January 3, 2023.
Early life
[edit]Pha moved to the United States fromLaoswith her family as a refugee at age three.[3]She was raised inSan DiegoandFresno, California,[4]as the oldest of eight children and part of theHmong community in the United States.[5]
Career
[edit]From 1996 to 2011, Pha worked as a real estate agent. In 2010, she founded a publishing company. Pha was elected to theBrooklyn Park City Councilin 2016. She was elected to theMinnesota Senatein November 2022,[6][7]the second Hmong woman to do so.[5]
