Symphytognathidaeis a family ofspiderswith 90[1]described species in eight genera. They occur in the tropics ofCentralandSouth Americaand theAustralianregion (withOceania). Exceptions includeAnapistula benoiti,Anapistula caecula,andSymphytognatha imbulunga,found inAfrica,Anapistula ishikawai,found inJapan,andAnapistula jerai,found inSoutheast Asia.[2]
The speciesPatu diguais considered to be one of the smallest spiders in the world with a body size of 0.37 millimetres (0.015 in).[3]
Morphology
[edit]Symphytognathidae are four, six or eight-eyed spiders and are generally small in size. Theopisthosomais covered in long hairs.[4]
