Taxonomy and systematics
[edit]Based on the results of amolecular phylogeneticstudy published in 2005, the genusMonarchawas split and 19 species moved to the resurrected genusSymposiachrusthat had been introduced by the French naturalistCharles Lucien Bonapartein 1854 with thespectacled monarch(Symposiachrus trivirgatus) as thetype species.[2][3]The genus nameSymposiachruscombines theAncient Greekσυν/sunmeaning "together", ποσις/posismeaning "husband" and αχρως/akhrōsmeaning "pallid".[4]
The genusSymposiachruscontains the following 23 species:[5]
