TVA Nouvellesis the news division ofTVA,a French languagetelevision networkinCanada.
Programs produced by the division include nightly local and national newscasts branded asTVA Nouvelles,as well as the news magazine programJE.The division also owns and operates the 24-hour news channelLe Canal Nouvelles.
In September 2020, the Group announced that Serge Fortin, who was managing the activities of TVA Nouvelles and LCN since 2004, would be replaced by Martin Picard, vice president and chief content officer.[1]
Mornings
[edit]In the mornings,TVA Nouvellesairs as headline news segments during the network'sbreakfast televisionprogramSalut, Bonjour!.This program is hosted by Ève-Marie Lortie weekdays fromMontreal,and Richard Turcotte on weekends fromQuebec City.[2]
Turcotte was previously the weekend host ofSalut, bonjour!,until moving to weekdays in 2024 following the retirement of longtime weekday hostGino Chouinard.[3]
Noon
[edit]At noon,TVA Nouvellesairs for one hour weekdays and half an hour on weekends. Two weekday editions are produced, with Julie Marcoux anchoring fromMontrealfor stations in western Quebec markets (Gatineau/Ottawa,Sherbrooke,Trois-RivièresandRouyn-Noranda),[4]and Julie Couture anchoring fromQuebec Cityfor stations in eastern Quebec (Rimouski,Rivière-du-Loup/Carleton-sur-MerandSaguenay).[5]Both programs also have segments set aside for local inserts presented by local anchors.
As most viewers in Canada outside of Quebec receive TVA stations from Montreal or Gatineau/Ottawa, the edition anchored by Marcoux is seen in most of Canada, although parts ofNew Brunswickreceive the Couture edition.
Afternoon
[edit]At 5 p.m. weekdays,TVA Nouvellesairs for 1.5 hours. This airing consists of a one-hour program anchored bySophie Thibault,[6]followed by half-hour local programs anchored by a local journalist at each TVA station.
The local anchors are Pierre Donais onCHOT-DTin Gatineau/Ottawa, Martin Blanchet onCFER-DTin Rimouski, Cindy Simard onCIMT-DTin Rivière-du-Loup andCHAU-DTin Carleton-sur-Mer, Katherine Vandal onCFEM-DTin Rouyn-Noranda, Jean-François Tremblay onCJPM-DTin Saguenay, Sonia Lavoie onCHLT-DTin Sherbrooke and Marie-Claude Paradis-Desfossés onCHEM-DTin Trois-Rivières. Thibault continues as anchor of the final half-hour onCFTM-DTin Montreal, and Couture anchors onCFCM-DTin Quebec City.[5]At 6:30, Thibault continues to anchor for a further half-hour which airs only on LCN.
On weekends, the 5 p.m. program does not air, with only a half-hour edition airing at 6 p.m. and anchored by Hadi Hassin.[7]
Primetime
[edit]The main national edition ofTVA Nouvelles,airing at 10 p.m. for half an hour, is anchored by Pierre-Olivier Zappa weekdays.[8]On weekends, the network simply simulcasts LCN for a half-hour slot, usually at 10:30 p.m. but sometimes delayed to 11 p.m. depending on that evening's earlier programming, rather than directly producing a TVA-specific newscast.
