TheTaipei Representative Office in Greece(Chinese:Trú hi tịch đài bắc đại biểu xử) (Greek:Γραφείο Αντιπροσωπείας της Ταϊπέι στην Ελλάδα)represents the interestsofTaiwaninGreecein the absence of formal diplomatic relations, functioning as ade factoembassy.[1]
Background
[edit]The aim of the representative office is to further bilateral cooperation between Greece and Taiwan in the fields of economics, culture, education and research. In addition, it offers consular services and the consular jurisdiction of the office also extends toBulgariaandCyprus.[2]
On 6 January 1973, theRepublic of Chinaestablished theFar East Trade Centerin Greece at the capital city Athens. On 28 December 1990, it was renamed theTaipei Economic and Cultural Office in Greece,which has the function of ade factoembassy. On 11 April 2003, it was renamed theTaipei Representative Office in Greece,with consular affairs and economic group.[3]
Since September 2016, the office is headed by a representative, currently Sherman S. Kuo, who previously served as the mayor ofYilan Cityin Taiwan.[4][5]
