Taldou(Arabic:تلدو,romanized:Talldū,also spelledTall Daww,Taldo,Tall DhuorTaldao) is a town in theHoularegion of northernSyria,north ofHomsin theHoms Governorate.Nearby towns includeBurj al-Qa'ito the east,Tallafto the northeast,Kafr LahaandTell Dahabto the north,QarmasandMaryaminto the northwest,al-Taybah al-Gharbiyahandal-Shinyahto the west,Kabuto the southwest,Sharqliyyato the south andGhur Gharbiyahto the southeast. In 2004 it had a population of 15,727 according to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics.[1]Its inhabitants are predominantlySunni Muslims.[2]
On May 25, 2012, together with the neighboring village al-Shumariyeh, Taldou was the scene of theHoula massacrein which 108 civilians, including 49 children and 32 women, were killed, allegedly bySyrian Armyshelling and ground attacks by pro-governmentShabeehamilitiamen.[3]As of 21 June 2012, government forces have been driven from the town center and are relegated to positions on the town's periphery. On May 15, 2018, Syrian forces retook the town.[4][5]
