Apostrophe

[edit]

What is that apostrophe doing there?Piet|Talk09:11, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be a substitute for an "i".Struman11:54, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm that makes sense. It hurts my eyes though, I've never seen that. But then, I donna speaka Italiano.Piet|Talk13:10, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Metropolitan'sAphrodite

[edit]

I hope this exact replica can stay here for comparison and not be sliced away to make a less meaningful stub on its own. Not every marble chip from Antiquity is fully understandable in isolation. --Wetman06:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lost?

[edit]

I'm having trouble understanding something. Is this statue lost? This article doesn't mention it's current location, but doesn't say it's lost. It also doesn't seem to include a photo, suggesting the drawings is all there is. Could this article be clarified?—Precedingunsignedcomment added by71.212.17.191(talk)15:34, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I too was curious about this.. some pretty extensive google searching only came up with a facebook page saying that it was still at the Uffizi, but can't confirmlink to said facebook page— Precedingunsignedcomment added by72.137.197.7(talk)05:04, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Painting caption questioned

[edit]

I notice a painting is captioned in English 'Watelet confronts the Venus de Medici'. I question whether 'confronts' is the correct word as he does not appear from his article to be opposed to sculptures like this; might not the correct word be 'contemplates', as he is depicted looking at the statuette while otherwise reading a book on the desk before him. There is a French inscription which describes the picture more fully but as I am not fluent in French I do not know how it fully translates.Cloptonson(talk)07:12, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
