Women's suffrage
[edit]Why was section on Women's suffrage removed? Is there a new page that I'm not finding with that information? --Ctdean19:06, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have no idea why it was removed. It appears to be an extremely long-standing vandalism, with the section having been blanked November last year. I've returned it and will try and keep I closer watch on this article in future.--cj|talk01:56, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Maxine McKew
[edit]In 2007 Maxine McKew became the first woman to unseat a sitting prime minister in his own electorate.
This statement is not inaccurate, but it's hardly something that would be considered a first for women. The unseating of a sitting PM in his own seat has only ever happened twice in Australia, andanyonewho does this creates BIG news. The sex of the candidate has nothing whatever to do with its importance. --JackofOz(talk)04:29, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Men's suffrage
[edit]Is there information anywhere on when men got the vote in Australia, or on the voting history in general? Why is there only information about women?87.115.143.172(talk)13:20, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
There is only information about women as the article is specific to women within the Australian Government. The voting history is included when talking about women gaining the vote in each state and Indigenous women in 1962. Men always had the vote, however it does not mention when Indigenous men gained the vote.Madisonaph(talk)02:29, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Madisonaph
First female Premier/Chief Minister
[edit]The first female Premier was Carmen Lawrence
This statement is technically correct, but not accurate if all statesand territoriesare included, as they are in the next sentence in reference to current female leaders. More correctly, Rosemary Follett AO was the first female head of government in an Australian state or territory, in 1989, when she became the first Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory.— Precedingunsignedcomment added by121.45.192.8(talk)13:40, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- But Lawrence was still the first Premier. By all means mention Follett as well, though.Frickeg(talk)20:36, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Missing footnote citations
[edit]The section entitled "Womens' suffrage" is lacking footnote citations, and this has been noted with the inclusion of a template. --Davblayn(talk)13:30, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
