Tarus Mateen,also known asTaurus MateenandTarus Dorsey Kinch(born October 21, 1967,Bakersfield, California) is an Americandouble-bassandelectric bassist,who works injazz,pop, and R&B idioms.[1]

Biography

Mateen was achild prodigyon bass and went on a tour of theCaribbeanwhen he was twelve years old.[1]He received his bachelor's degree fromMorehouse College,where he also played on the side, then relocated to New York City in 1988. He worked withBetty Carter,Marlon Jordan,Roy Hargrove,Eddie Harris,Kenny Burrell,Milt Jackson,Mark Whitfield,Tim Warfield,Rodney Kendrick,andTerence Blanchardin the early 1990s. Later in the decade he worked withKenny Barron,Bobbi Humphrey,Marc Cary,Stefon Harris,andGreg Osby.In the 2000s he worked withBernard Purdie,Nasheet Waits,Stanley Cowell,Mark Shim,Jacky Terrasson,Michael Marcus,Logan Richardson,andJason Moranamong others.

Mateen has also worked as asession musicianand touring bassist for pop, soul, and R&B artists, includingChristina Aguilera,OutKast,Toni Braxton,Goodie Mob,Q-Tip,Lauryn Hill,Ghostface Killah,Ice Cube,andThe Roots.
