Tectariaceaeis afamilyofleptosporangiate fernsin theorderPolypodiales. In thePteridophyte Phylogeny Groupclassification of 2016 (PPG I), the family is placed in the suborderPolypodiineae.[1]Alternatively, it may be treated as the subfamilyTectarioideaeof a very broadly defined familyPolypodiaceaesensu lato.[2]The family comprises sevengenera,of whichTectariais by far the largest.[1]

Taxonomy

[edit]

In 1990, Karl U. Kramer and coauthors treatedPleocnemiaand 7 of the currently recognized genera as asubfamilyofDryopteridaceae.[3]Two other genera,ArthropterisandPsammiosorus, along withOleandra, constituted Kramer'sOleandraceae. It is now known that Kramer'sversionof Dryopteridaceae ispolyphyletic.Arthropteris(includingPsammiosorus) lies within Tectariaceae and Tectariaceae is sister to a clade consisting ofOleandraceae,Davalliaceae,andPolypodiaceae.[4]In 2006, in a revision of fernclassification,Tectariaceae was an accepted family.[5]In 2007, amolecular phylogeneticstudyof Dryopteridaceae includedPleocnemiaand showed that it belongs in Dryopteridaceae.[6]Also in 2007,Dracoglossumwasnamedas a new genus.[7]It has since been removed toLomariopsidaceae.

Phylogeny

[edit]

In 2016, acladisticanalysis of Tectariaceae separated two new genera,DraconopterisandMalaifilix, fromTectariasensu stricto.[8]
