Atenotomyis a surgical act which involves the division of atendon.[1]It and related procedures are also referred to astendon release,tendon lengthening,andheel-cord release.

When it involves theAchilles tendon,it is called "Achillotenotomy".[citation needed]

It has been used in the treatment ofcerebral palsy.[2]

It has also been used forhammer toe.[3]

As an alternative to SLAP lesion labral repair, the tendon of the long head of the bicep can be released.[4]

Achilles tenotomy is commonly used as part of thePonseti Methodof treatingclubfoot.[citation needed]
