Teresa Saponangelo(born 22 October 1973) is an Italian film, television and stage actress.
Life and career
[edit]Born inTaranto,Saponangelo is the daughter of a workman and a housewife. Her father died when she was two years old, and in 1976 she moved toNapleswith her mother and her brother.[1][2][3]
After attending several dramatic societies, Saponangelo made her official stage debut inGiacomo Rizzo'sCe penza mammà.[1][2]After not being admitted to the acting schools ofPiccolo TeatroandAccademia Nazionale,Saponangelo studied at the Palmi Drama School inReggio Calabria,at the suggestion ofGiorgio Albertazzi.[1]
In 1994 she made her film debut inIl VerificatorebyStefano Incerti,and then appeared in films directed byPaolo and Vittorio Taviani,Sergio Rubini,Paolo Virzì,andSilvio Soldini,and on stage with directorsToni Servillo,Antonio Capuano,andMario Martone,among others.[1][2][3]In 2000 she was nominated forNastro d'Argento's Best Actressthanks to her performance inAnna Negri'sIn the Beginning There Was Underwear;[4]the same year she won theUbu Awardfor her performance as Dorina in the stage playTartufo.[3]
