BarackandMichelle Obamaacquired the rights to the book for aNetflixseries about theU.S. government.[8]The 2022 American documentary comedy seriesThe G Word with Adam Conoveris "loosely inspired" by the book.[9]

John MacWilliams, arisk managementexpert at theUnited States Department of Energyfrom theObama Administration,gave Lewis the top five risks he saw for the department:broken arrows(loose nukes and nuclear accidents),North Korean nuclear weapons,an end to theIran nuclear deal,protecting theelectrical gridfromcyberterrorism,and internalproject management.It is this fifth risk that inspired the title of the book.[2]
