Theca internacells expressreceptorsforluteinizing hormone(LH) to produceandrostenedione,which via a few steps, gives thegranulosathe precursor forestrogenmanufacturing.[1]

After rupture of the matureovarian follicle,the theca interna cells differentiate into thetheca lutein cellsof thecorpus luteum.Theca lutein cells secreteandrogens[2]andprogesterone.Theca lutein cells are also known as small luteal cells.[2]
