Tilman Moritz Kuban(born 26 May 1987) is a German politician of theChristian Democratic Union(CDU) who has been serving as a member of the GermanBundestagsince 2021. He was also the chairman of the CDU’s youth organisation, theYoung Union(JU), from 2019 until 2022.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Kuban was born 1987 in the West German town ofLangenhagenand studiedlawat theUniversity of Osnabrück.[2]Before entering politics, he worked as atalent scoutfor football clubHannover 96.[3]
Political career
[edit]Kuban entered the CDU in 2007 and was elected chairman of the JU in 2019, succeedingPaul Ziemiak.[4]
In November 2016, Kuban announced that he would succeedMaria Flachsbarthand run for a parliamentary seat in the2021 national elections,representing theHannover-Land IIdistrict.[5]In parliament, Kuban has since been serving on the Committee on Economic Affairs and the Committee on European Affairs.[6]In this capacity, he is his parliamentary group’srapporteuron Europe’s relations with Ukraine.[7]
Political positions
[edit]In 2020, Kuban declared that the CDU was “resolved to not work together with theAfDorThe Left,whether directly or indirectly. "[8]
Ahead of the Christian Democrats’leadership electionin 2021, Kuban publicly endorsedFriedrich Merzto succeedAnnegret Kramp-Karrenbaueras the party's chair.[9]For the2021 national elections,he later endorsedMarkus Söderas the Christian Democrats' joint candidate to succeedChancellorAngela Merkel.[10]
