Torrijosis amunicipalityin theprovince of Toledo,Castilla–La Mancha,Spain.[2]As of 1 January 2022, it had a registered population of 13,678.[2]The municipality spans across a total area of 17.34 km2.[2]

A Christian army on its way toToledotook control over the place on behalf ofAlfonso VIin 1085, thereby becoming arealengo('royal demesne').[3][4]

Torrijos was gifted to the archbishop of Toledo in 1214, in reward for the latter's help in theBattle of Navas de Tolosa,[5]ensuingly becoming a dominion of theMitre of Toledo.[6]Torrijos enjoyed a sizeable Jewish community, which sided with the losing side in theCastilian Civil Warand which also suffered, although to a lesser extent than other locations, the1391 pogroms.[7]In the context of the 1449 urban revolts in Toledo, a Toledan army underPedro Girónsacked Torrijos in 1450.[8]Torrijos was bought away from the Archdiocese of Toledo in 1482, and it was incorporated to the Estate ofMaqueda,also becoming a town.[9]
