TheTralee–Fenit Greenwayis agreenwayandrail trailinIreland,[2]which is due to form part ofEuroVeloEV1and theGreat Southern Trail.The 14km route was planned to be completed by 2021, but delayed due to theCOVID-19 pandemic,[3]with a rescheduled opening of summer 2022.[4]The first phase of the greenway, comprising 6.5km of the route, was opened in June 2022,[5]this was extended to 11.2km in October 2022.[6][7]

In 2017,CIÉagreed to divest the Tralee - Fenit andNorth Kerryrailways toKerry County Council,[8][9]in order to facilitate the completion of the Kerry Greenways. Initially planned to open in 2021, the project completion date was updated to 2022 owing to a "planning matter".[10][11]The planned route required the development of new underpasses.[12]

Blockades

Soon after the official opening, gates on the greenway were blocked-off by third-parties on multiple occasions.[13][14]

Great Southern Greenway

As theTralee–FenitandTralee–Limerickrailways shared the same rail-bed out of Tralee,[9]the first 3km of theTralee Fenit Greenwayalso forms part of theGreat Southern TrailandEuroVeloEV1.[15][16]
