Lutonis a town in theUnited Kingdomless than 30 miles (50 km) north of the centre ofLondon,and has good transport links via themotorway networkand theNational Railsystem.Lutonis also home toLuton Airport,one of the major feeder airports for London and the southeast. The town is also served by buses run byArriva Herts & Essexand other operators and has aguided busway.As aUnitary Authority,Luton Borough Councilis responsible for local highways and public transport in the borough.

Luton is served by theM1 Motorway(London-Leeds), theA6(Luton-Carlisle) and theA505(Sawston-Leighton Buzzard).[citation needed]

Nearby settlements accessible by the road network includeMilton KeynesandSt Albans(via the M1),Bedford(via the A6), andDunstable,Leighton BuzzardandHitchin(via the A505).

Luton is served by three railway stations on theMidland Main Line:Luton,Luton Airport ParkwayandLeagrave.

As of January 2023,Govia Thameslink Railwayruns theThameslinkroute north toBedfordand south toBrighton,Three BridgesandRainhamvia central London stations. There are limited peak time services toEast Grinstead,OrpingtonandSutton.[1]

East Midlands Railwayoperates semi-fast "EMR Connect" services betweenLondon St PancrasandCorby,calling at Luton and Luton Airport Parkway. They also operate limited services toMelton Mowbray,NottinghamandSheffieldfrom these stations.[2]

Luton to Dunstable Busway

TheLuton to Dunstable Buswayis aguided busconnectingDunstable,Houghton Regisand Luton with Luton Airport. The guided busway runs for 13.4 kilometres (8.3 miles) and was opened in September 2013.[4]

Luton Airport is 2 mi (3.2 km) from Junction 10 of theM1and is the fourth-largest airport serving the London area, afterHeathrow,GatwickandStansted,and is one of London's six international airports along withLondon City AirportandLondon Southend Airport.The airport is a hub forEasyJet,TUI AirwaysandRyanair.[5]

Luton DART

A,automated people mover/light railtransit line linksLuton AirportwithLuton Airport Parkway.It opened in March 2023 and, after an initial trial run, will provide a 24-hour service to and from the airport.[6]It is expect to open 24 hours per day three weeks later.
