Tusciais a historical region ofItalythat comprised the territories underEtruscaninfluence and the name adopted forEtruriaafter the Roman conquest.[1]
From theMiddle Agesthe region was divided into three macro-areas: the "Roman Tuscia", corresponding to northernLaziowith the ancientPapal provinceof thePatrimony of St. Peter,which today is equivalent to theprovince of Viterboand the northern part of theprovince of Romenorth up toLake Bracciano;the "ducal Tuscia", which included the territories of Lazio andUmbriasubject to theDuchy of Spoleto,which was later also incorporated into the papal territories; and the "Lombard Tuscia",roughlythe currentTuscany,including the territories subjected to theLombardsand constituting theDuchy of Tuscia.[2]
