Ultra Fractalis afractalgeneration and renderingsoftware application. The program was the first publicly available fractal software which featured layering methods previously only found in image editing software.[1]Because of this, the program has become popular for use in the creation offractal art.

Ultra Fractal iscommercial software, but an evaluation version is freely available. Theunregisteredversion createswatermarkedrenders.

Ultra Fractal israsterbased.[2] The program works using a similar paradigm toPhotoshop, allowing multiple layers to be combined usinglayer blending modes, transformations, and custom fractalformulas.Fractal formulas, coloringalgorithms, and transformations may be written by users, and a large number of such formulafilesare available in a public formuladatabase.Fractals may becopiedfrom the interface and pasted as plain text into anemail. There is a busymailing liston which many users post their parameter sets.[citation needed]

Calculation usingarbitrary precision arithmeticis supported, allowing users to zoom to a magnification of 104000.

TheGUIis customizable with a dockableMDI.The software calculatesstatisticsabout the fractal that is being previewed. Other features include fullscreen mode, color cycling, a render queue, distributedrendering calculations, and a detailed help file. Version 4 added support foranimationsand improvedflame fractalrendering.

Formulae fromFractint,an early and widely used piece offractal-generating software, have been converted to an UltraFractal formula file.[citation needed]
