Redundancy pool
A `redundancy pool` is a term used in UK redundancy situations. It is the group of people from which the redundancies will be made.
For example a sales manager with a sales team of 10 people doing the same type of work may have to reduce from 10 to 8 people. The redundancy pool would therefore be the 10 people from which the two reductions are made.
Assuming thatvoluntary redundancywas not an option, there would be a period of consultation whereby the selection criteria used to determine which employees are to be selected, is agreed. Usually the consultation would be with the union or employee reps.
Usually scores for each criteria are fed into a scoring grid and the employees with the lowest score are made redundant.
