Twitter bot
[edit]You removed @maskchievous from the examples? Most of the examples are banned or locked and so are pointless as examples, so I put that one one as it was a working example and a good example as it has automated tweets that regularly randomly tweet a meme with random emoticons, also it regularly changed its profile avi.
So you removed the best examples of a Twitter bot that was on the wiki page.HardeeHar(talk)19:35, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- As stated in the edit description, it's only citation was to itself. I believe this violatesWikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published_or_questionable_sources_as_sources_on_themselves.--audiodude(talk)19:48, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
A link to the source is acceptable in such circumstances.HardeeHar(talk)19:59, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
People look at that page and go to the Twitter bots and find that most of the bots don't exist. So you see why i added some, and it's better for the page that there is some working examples, the examples section is pointless otherwiseHardeeHar(talk)20:01, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- I believe that all of the examples should be discussed in reliable third party sources, as is the general policy of Wikipedia, or else the page would devolve into a bunch of people just listing some bot that they made that doesn't pass notability standards (as it has tended to do in the past). As for bots being suspended/blocked/no longer active, that is a separate discussion that's worth having. Perhaps we can split the list into "Current" and "Past Bots" sections. Also can we please move this discussion off my talk page and on to the article's talk page? Thank you. --audiodude(talk)20:08, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
Regards using just a link, it is ok, there are exceptions, in certain circumstances (such as in this case) its ok; I'll give you an example and you'll understand what I mean. Take the britney Spears wiki page, there's a link to her website, there's no citation, just a link to the source, link to the website. Another example is the Boulder City wiki page, there's a link to boulder city's website, again there's no citation, just a link to the website.
A link to a website is ok in such circumstances; this can be found on about 90% of Wiki pages, it's the norm.HardeeHar(talk)23:34, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
It sounds like you're making excuses to remove examples of bots; you admit that you don't like the thought of someone adding their own bot. But It's not relevant whether it's their bot or not if it was added because it's a good example of a bot and it make the wiki page better. Seems like you singled out that example and removed it bacause you think it's my Twitter account, which if that's the case then you're guilty of malicious editing. essentially of vandalism and will be reported accordingly. HardeeHar(talk)23:43, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- Lots of wiki pages have links to the website of the topic being discussed. However, those shouldn't and likely aren't the only source for the material in the article. Every piece of information on Wikipedia has to be backed up by reliable, third-party sourcesWP:CITE.The twitter page of a twitter bot is not such a source. I don't know if that bot is yours or not, but if it is, there are alsoWikipedia:WHYNwhich states that "we require at least one secondary source". Regardless of the validity of the link, it is a primary source, not a secondary one. --audiodude(talk)02:06, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
You're wrong, the content I put on was overseen and approved by an admin. You overruled an admin! You didn't careless that the content was approved by an admin nor that the content bettered the wiki page, nor that the content had been there a year, you maliciously removed content for your own spiteful reasons. You did vandalism!

Question about testing new Assessment bot, Third generation
[edit]Greetings(audiodude—Kelson—Walkerma)- For our Thursday weekly meeting onWP 1.0 bot- Third generation, Walkerma & I discussed status of new bot. Can it be tested forWikipedia:WikiProject Catholicismas we discussed? Is this a patch to existing bot, or completely new?
This Sat-Sun. is ending of DaylightSavingTime so would next week be a good time to test? Most days I'm able to be on Wikipedia a couple hours in morning & again 1 pm to 5 pm (CentralTime) afternoons + weekend random hours. Regards,JoeHebda(talk)20:09, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
Once testing begins updates can be posted atUser talk:WP 1.0 bot/Third generationpage. Regards,JoeHebda(talk)20:09, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
Nov. 8 update
[edit]Greetings(audiodude—Kelson—Walkerma)- When Walkerma & I conversed on Jitsi today, he mentioned that for the test of replacement bot it runs slow. Could that be just the Test environment vs Production? For many years (before retirement) I was "Computer Operations Specialist", meaning "many hats" at a small business. Computer jobs ran for testing were always in a smaller box & purposely restricted to give priority to online interactive stuff.
AtUser:CleanupWorklistBotis a page for bot that generates weekly article cleanup listings for WikiProjects. Don't know if this has any value for WP1.0bot ideas.
While reading aboutPython (programming language)I found categoryCategory:Python peopleand wondering if any of these folks might be able to contribute.
Audiodude, if you could send me link to bot source being developed I would be willing to at least look it over - and I promise not to update anything.:-)
Lastly, I have held off contacting Signpost about any of the recent bot news.JoeHebda(talk)20:37, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hi@JoeHebda:!I'm really sorry that I haven't been able to make the meetings the past couple of weeks. Yes, the current problem has to do with the new bot being too slow. It's not a matter of test versus production environment, because I'm actually developing the bot in the production environment (which is a bit crazy, yes) in order to have access to live Wikipedia data.
- The source for the new bot is [here]. It usesSQLAlchemy,anObject-relational_mappingtool that might be the source of the slowdown. It's designed to make working with the database easier but may be causing lots of objects to be created in memory which makes things slow. Cheers,audiodude(talk)23:15, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Audiodude:- I see that SQLAlchemy has a new release Oct. 31. Would that help or are you already on that release?JoeHebda(talk)00:29, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- @JoeHebda:- Interesting, I'll try installing that to see if it helps, but I think the problem is more fundamental.audiodude(talk)02:17, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

enwp10 tool is Broken--Gave Your Name to Contact
[edit]The various wikiprojects which use theenwp10 tool you are listed as maintainingare unable to view their assessment statistics. I in particular am using it to go through a 500-article backlog for Wikiproject:Biology that I want to get done as soon as possible.
If you know anything about this issue and/or when or how it might be fixed, I would appreciate the information very much.
Thanks for your work on the tool!Prometheus720(talk)17:43, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi@Prometheus720:-- Thanks for the heads up on this. I've restarted the tool and it seems to be working now. Not sure why it needed to be restarted. Thanks again!audiodude(talk)20:02, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- Greetings Audiodude and@Prometheus720:-- For several years thatenwp10 toolhas the same issue, namely it stops running. Often monthly, & sometimes weekly. It has to be manually restarted by Audiodude because there is no "Restart" button for us editors to get it running again. On the "wish-list" for the new bot is a request for "enwp10" to send out error message or email when it stops or has an error. Unfortunately these fixes/improvements may be years in the waiting. That's why I've moved on to other Wikipedia interests instead of being frustrated... Regards,JoeHebda(talk)22:23, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Audiodude:Then in lieu of an automated error message, would you mind updating the error page that I linked in order to send people to your talk page here on Wikipedia? I didn't understand that site or what it was for, or that I could just contact the same username on Wikipedia proper. It took me two days to figure it out. For newer editors like me, it could be hard to figure out what to do. By the way, thanks@JoeHebda:for the background info.Prometheus720(talk)02:20, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Prometheus720:It's not a matter of "the web app gets into a known error state". It's more like "the web app crashes randomly". I'll look into updating the error page, but I'm not sure it's possible since it's a shared box. Do you remember what the error code was? Was it 503?audiodude(talk) 02:23, 19 April 2019 (UTC
- @Audiodude:Yes, it was definitely 503. I also want to note that when I do a large editing session (say 100 articles rated) it is quite slow to update. In some cases it has taken 2 days to notice that I have actually gone over a chunk of articles. I'm not sure if there is any connection at all to that or not, though.
- @Prometheus720:It must have been 502, because for 503 (the app is actually down), the toolforge server serves this page:https://i.imgur.com/TwWqASR.png.When the app is hung randomly (note that I said crashed randomly before but really the problem is that it's hanging and not crashing, if it was crashing you'd see the page I screenshotted), it just takes forever and returns a 502. I've tried adding a custom lighttpd 502 page, but not sure if we'll see it until the next time this happens. Regarding the updates taking a while, the "data update" job only runs once per day, and the "data upload" job runs 12 hours after that. So it is definitely possible that when you make edits, it might feel like a few days has passed before you see your work reflected.audiodude(talk)02:41, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

- @Audiodude:- Stuck again. Click on table link & it just hangs. Pleasekick it again.JoeHebda(talk)14:54, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- @JoeHebda:Looks like it's working for me. Do you have an example link that's broken?audiodude(talk)01:26, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, it is now working. A suggestion - since the enwp10 seems to (lockup/crash/stop running) on a random timeline, how about setting up a weekly or monthly job that stops it, shuts it down, then restarts? Then it would just be a preventative thing to insure it runs smoothly going forward.JoeHebda(talk)15:52, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
- I'm hesitant to invest any time in the old web tool when we are preparing to replace it with the new version. It's also not clear that restarting it on a cron job would be possible. If it locks up again, just post here on my talk page or email me directly at audiodude (a-t) gmail.com.audiodude(talk)21:35, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot/Tables
[edit]Hello. Could you update the bot that he would not add double bold to headings like "Quality" "Importance" and "Total"?ExampleEurohunter(talk)21:04, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- That could be done, but I have to ask what the reasoning behind the potential change is? Also, shouldn't we get consensus from the dozens of editors who use these tables before making such a change?audiodude(talk)21:09, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- Isn't double bold bad by its nature? If I remember correctly some people can not notice it on low quality monitors.Eurohunter(talk)20:00, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know what you mean by "double" bold, I don't think there's any such thing. We're using

Queries
[edit]Hello, Audiodude,
I was going to post a question atWikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Indexand then noticed that there are a few questions there that have not been replied to. Should another editor be monitoring this page so they can answer questions?LizRead!Talk!22:54, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hello! I'll check the page now. Generally, I don't 'monitor' that page, but I do notice when people ping me. Anyways, adding additional support sounds good in theory but I don't know of who would provide it. Go ahead and post your question and I'll do my best to respond.audiodude(talk)23:39, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. My question is basically how to deactivate reports for inactive, abandoned WikiProjects. I've seen some WikiProject reports that have 0 changes for days on end.LizRead!Talk!02:06, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's a good question! From my perspective as the bot operator, inactive projects are usually quite small. And the fact that they're inactive means there's nothing of note to update for them. So keeping them "on the books" is cheap. On the other hand, all WikiProjects are community organized and driven, right? So they end up being quite sticky I imagine. If you wanted to close down a WikiProject, you'd likely need consensus from those who started it, and those folks would likely not want to shut it down for whatever reason (that is, if they're still even around and you could get ahold of them).
- On the other hand, we could consider just "marking" inactive projects as inactive in the tool, but this isn't necessarily a win for the reasons I outlined above. This is, however, the method I would prefer if we did want to achieve the goal of not creating reports/tables for inactive projects. Was there something else you had in mind? Also, while I can definitely see that inactive projects tend to create a lot of "lint" in, say, the projects list on the web tool, I'm not completely clear of what other reason there is to remove them. There are only 2562 projects right now. Was there something you were thinking of? Thanks,audiodude(talk)02:17, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Audiodude,
Lovely to watch your bot running here. But i have an issue in many wikis, other than en.wiki, which still not have this bot running, specially id.wiki and ban.wiki. Australian sub projects query
[edit]please forgive me if I wasnt paying attention at the appropriate time/place - but have quality log records gone the way of the dodo? I have noticed a possible cut off time of about 4 or 5 years ago - but are they still viable/able whatever? I am sure there is an answer somewhere, I have hoped that you might be able to offer a clue or two... (I was hoping to find some way - if it or a similar process is available - to re-apply to the australian sub projects - however if its gone and thats it - fine no problems)JarrahTree07:50, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi@JarrahTree:which projects are you talking about specifically? The bot still creates logs for projects it knows about, seeWikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/United States articles by quality logfor example. If you can list some of the projects that are having problems, I can look into figuring out what's going on. Thanks!audiodude(talk)16:17, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
My problem is I had thought that about eight years or so ago that all the australian sub projects had had quality logs:
I was sure that I can remember statistics and logs as two separate items...
however when I look now -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Australian_law_articles_by_quality
- and it seems there is only the quality box... I could be very wrong of course.JarrahTree08:13, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Are you talking aboutthis pagewhich is linked fromWikipedia:WikiProject Australian law?Every "WikiProject" has both a "... articles by quality log" page and an articles by quality table. Hope this helps.audiodude(talk)00:16, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot to another wikis language
[edit]Hello,Audiodude. Can you please allow us to use your User:Wp 1.0 bot for UzWiki as well? The capabilities of the bot were also necessary for us. Thanks for your reply.Laziz Baxtiyorov(talk)11:38, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Laziz Baxtiyorov,we have considered adding support for additional languages in WP 1.0 Bot in the past, for both French and Arabic. Mostly, these have been held up by the fact that I don't speak those languages at all. You can look atthis commenton the bot's Github page for more information on the types of things that would have to take place to make this work. Besides the technical/deployment side, which I would handle, we would need to make sure that the UzWiki uses WikiProjects, and that we can create a mapping of the terminology used on that Wiki to the labels used in WP 1.0 (Like "Fooarticles by quality"for the" Foo "project). Really, we should create a" playbook "for localizing WP 1.0 for other wikis so that in the future, once the groundwork technical hurdles are overcome, we will know exactly the steps to follow.audiodude(talk)09:13, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Assessment table for WP:Albums articles
[edit]Hi Audiodude - back in 2022 WP:Albums concluded that the "importance" parameter was unnecessary for the project, and the consensus was that albums would be assessed only by quality going forward. However, no changes have been made to the assessment table, which means that it looks a bit of a mess with red links all across the top headings of importance which are now redundant (User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Album). Effectively we now are only interested in the final "Total" column. Is there any way of getting the table changed so it looks similar to the single column for the WP:Songs WikiProject (User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Song), who also decided to assess their articles by quality only? Or do I have to put in a request to the technical helpdesk? Thanks very much.Richard3120(talk)18:37, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! I am definitely the right person for this request, I don't think the technical helpdesk would be of much use (they would probably just direct you to me). Anyways, I understand your problem and I think I can fix it. There's currently no standardized way for the bot to recognize that a project has stopped using "...by importance" categories, but I think I can make a sort of manual update. I'll post here when I think it's been fixed. Thanks!audiodude(talk)22:36, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Okay @Richard3120I think I fixed it. Let me know if there are any problems or if you need any more help.audiodude(talk)23:38, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, forgot to mention. The assessment page of your Wikiproject links tohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Album_articles_by_quality_statisticswhich hasn't been updated since 2010 (!). I think you want to link tohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WP_1.0_bot/Tables/Project/Albumaudiodude(talk)23:40, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Audiodude, thanks for your reply and getting on to it so quickly. But that can't be right - it's now saying that the total number of articles (from FA down to stub level) is just over 6000 in total. Its WAY more than that... just the stub articles alone were in excess of 30,000 last time I looked. For example, the table is telling me that there are 29 GA-class album articles... but if I go toCategory:GA-Class Album articlesit shows 1,519, which is the correct number.Richard3120(talk)09:02, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes it looks like I managed to just "hide" the importance categories without counting them for the quality categories. Let me look again, thanks.audiodude(talk)16:25, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Richard3120Okay I think it's fixed now. Please take another look and let me know. Thanks!audiodude(talk)16:36, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Perfect! Thank you so much for your trouble.Richard3120(talk)17:18, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
