Please remember to be careful with minor edits / language changes
[edit]Hi Colman2000, some time ago you were asked to be careful when you make language corrections to articles. I'd like to ask you again to take greater care – quite a few of the edits you have made with the edit summary "corrections" recently were changes from one acceptable phrasing to another acceptable phrasing (thus not a correction) or, more concerning, changes from correct to incorrect phrasing. Inthis edit, for instance, there are multiple issues, including changes from "which" to "that" which violatedWP:ENGVAR;changes from "a number of" to "several" where "several" made no sense; and changes of "more arid" to the unidiomatic "arider". Again, if you use a grammar checking tool, you have to go through every single change the tool suggests, and only accept the ones that are improvements. In almost very case, most of the tool's suggestions will not be improvements and should not be accepted. Regards, --bonadeacontributionstalk12:33, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Bonadea:I apologize for my mistake. Yes, I do use a grammar-checking tool and sometimes I do not read the sentence to make sure it makes sense. With that said, I will take your advice into consideration.Colman2000(talk)17:03, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Your addition toCavazos, Texashas been removed or altered, as it appears toclosely paraphrasea copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing orquotationis appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearlyattributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases which are not attributed to their source may constitutecopyright violationorplagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here forlegal reasons;please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source ofinformation, but not as a source ofsentences. This part is crucial:say it in your own words.
If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then youmustverify that externally by one of the processes explained atWikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the copyright but have permission from that owner, seeWikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violatorswill beblocked from editing. As with many other pages, your creation ofCavazos, Texashas very close paraphrasing of the Handbook of Texas site. Please take care to write your own articles, not just closely follow other copyrighted pages.Fram(talk)10:42, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Admin noticeboard discussion of your continued close paraphrasing
[edit]I've startedWP:ANI#Colman2000 and close paraphrasing, suggesting either a final warning or some block to put a stop to your incessant additions of long sections of close paraphrasing. You are invited to post your comments at that discussion.Fram(talk)10:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
Your addition toFinger, North Carolinais not very good. It has the same problem for which you got blocked: too-close paraphrasing. You cover the same points, rearranged the content a bit, and substituted a few words. That's not okay. If you are not able to write your own content, you won't be able to edit here, so sorry.
This particular source is public domain, so I am going to add the required attribution template{{source-attribution}}
and leave the content in place. —Diannaa(talk)14:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
A page that might assist
[edit]Hi Colman2000, I stumbled in here and realized that a guide I recently found might be helpful for you - it's been great for me as I start work on my first drafts. How to mine a sourceis the guide in question. tl;dr, it describes how to get the maximum amount of information from a sourcewithoutparaphrasing or plagiarizing in any way. The process is laid out clearly with an example source and in my opinion makes it much easier to break down information and put the facts back together in your own words. I hope this might be as useful to you as it has been to me, and wish you happy editing!StartGrammarTime(talk)07:33, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- @StartGrammarTime:Thank you so much! I will definitely take a look!Colman2000(talk)15:24, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
I understand you don't remember every article you've created, but as you're more familiar with this subject area, could you please tell where you got the information under "Education" from and cite it? Thanks,NotAGenious(talk)12:38, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- @NotAGenious:Hi. I got it from the GreatSchools school district boundaries map. The Handbook of Texas can also show what school district the community is served by.Colman2000(talk)15:18, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Understood. Could you provide a link for where you got the data forSummers Mill, Texas?NotAGenious(talk)13:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @NotAGenious:Same exact website.Colman2000(talk)15:57, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- For me, typing in the search field the database doesn't recognize Summers nor Sommers Mill.NotAGenious(talk)16:34, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @NotAGenious:Same exact website.Colman2000(talk)15:57, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @NotAGenious:Sometimes I like to look at the exact location on HomeTownLocator or GNIS and click on its location in the database.Colman2000(talk)16:48, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @NotAGenious:Kind of... Go to hometownlocator.com and click on the link to the location of Summers Mill in Bell County, then look at the map to see its precise location. When you go back to the GreatSchools boundaries map, look for it, and then click on it. That is what I meant.Colman2000(talk)15:36, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi again! As promised, I've spent some time messing around with the source you provided. Unfortunately I really don't think we can do much with just that one reference - it's a great reference, with concise info, well laid-out, but the problem is that without other sources no matter what I do it's effectively close paraphrasing. If there were other sources we could bring the information together, flesh bits out - like I'd love to be able to add names of some of the first residents, or why the mill and gin were the first buildings, whether 350 residents was a big jump in numbers and whether that was considered a good-sized town at the time...you know what I mean? Without other things to add I just don't see any way to avoid basically rewriting the source but with slightly different wording. I can make lists of the information in the source, but it's absolutely vital to be able to work with another source (or two, or three...) to find and fill in the gaps.
I'm very sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you do end up with a draft with more sources, please feel free to come chat again - I enjoy being able to practice!StartGrammarTime(talk)05:59, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @StartGrammarTime:Understood. For now, I will cool it with the Texas community articles and focus on something else. In the meantime, there is some information on two communities named Vasco and Yowell in the Handbook of Texas and Texas Escapes Magazine. How should I use what you described for these communities in these two sources?Colman2000(talk)06:09, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
