- Just FYI, if you go to Preferences (top right of screen), then Gadgets, then scroll down to Appearnce section, then scroll down until you find "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange", tick that box (and then Save, lower left of page) and you will see any disambiguation links displayed as orange making it easy to know if there are links to be disambiguated.Kerry(talk)01:50, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploadingFile:Scottish bagpiper R S McDonald 2015.jpg,which you've attributed to R S McDonald. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under theCC-BY-SAor another acceptable free license (seethis list)at the site of the original publication;or

You can find a sample permission letterhere. If you take this step, add{{OTRS pending}}to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to[email protected].
If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as{{non-free fair use}}or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use,and add arationalejustifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. Citations for Queensland place names (Jan 2018)
[edit]I noticed you adding a citation for the place name ofRoss River (Queensland). The best way to cite an entry in the Queensland Places Names database is to use the{{cite QPN}}template as follows:
<ref>{{Cite QPN|29108|Ross River|river in Townsville City|accessdate=25 January 2018}}</ref>
The first two parameters (the entry number and the place name) must be exactly as they appear in the QPN (if not the citation will not create the correct URL). The third parameter is optional and only for the reader's benefit but is intended to help them distinguish between similarly named entries (particularly if the article has multiple QPN citations). In the case of Ross River, there are two entries in the QPN for Ross River, one for the river itself and one for the locality named after the river. If I was needing to cite both, I would cite the other as
<ref>{{Cite QPN|44635|Ross River|locality in Townsville City|accessdate=25 January 2018}}</ref>
Indeed if you look in theRoss River, Queenslandarticle for the locality, you will see 3 of these QPN citations in action (one for the locality, one for the river and one for the reservoir).
The fourth parameter is just the access date, same as any other web citation.
The reason why it is better to use the template is that the Qld Govt has a nasty habit of renaming its websites with every change of ministerial responsibilities and also redesigning them. So URLs like https://www.dnrm.qld.gov.au/qld/environment/land/place-names/search#/search=ross river&types=0&place=Ross_River29108 are not very stable (typically last a year or so). By generating the URL in the template, we only have to fix the template when the Qld Govt makes changes rather than seek out and fix every one of the URLs if done manually. We currently have over 2000 uses of the template. If we weren't using the template, that would be over 2000 broken URLs to be fixed every year or so. So I hope you can learn to use the template. Any question, please feel free to ask.Kerry(talk)01:00, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! Also fixed it up inMacGregor, Queensland.Q8682(talk)06:25, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
Dealing with dead links - St Andrew Boat Club, Edinburgh (Feb 2018)
[edit]I reverted your edit toSt Andrew Boat Club.We don't remove links just because they no longer work, seeWP:link rot.You can use the old url to find an archive link, as I did, for example, inthis edit. You may wish to do the same for other links which no longer work. --David Biddulph(talk)14:02, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Multiple references to the same webpage leads nothing to the article. It is cleaner to put the repetitive link to the External links page. Also the link to Scottish Rowing has a terminating oblique after the '.html' which was a typographical error. It was better to cite the current URL, than reference a 2013 link. The reverting of links IMHO does not make a better article. However, do as you will.Q8682(talk)14:13, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Even without the oblique the link tohttp://www.scottish-rowing.org.uk/contacts.htmlgives a 404, but of course I'm happy if you find better links. --David Biddulph(talk)14:22, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- I did:http://www.scottish-rowing.org.uk/index.php/takingpart/club-finder.Was in the External link section.Q8682(talk)14:25, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Funny coincidence with your username (Jul 2020)
[edit]No worries re edit that you thanked me for. I'm not sure how familiar you are withWikidata, but it just happens that over there all items are placed under titles starting with Q followed by a number. So in the search box, if you type "d:Q8682", you get taken tothe Wikidata entry about Real Madrid CF.The Wikidata item was createdafteryouraccount, which is even more amusing.Graham8703:09, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
FYI: The Her (naval vessels) (Aug 2020)
[edit]Looking atthis edit,I see you have used the phrase "the HMASStuart".You will be aware that HMAS is an acronym for" Her Majesty's Australian Ship ". It is considered improper to prefix this with" the "unless referring to something other than the ship. eg. HMAS Canberra vs the HMAS Canberra Football Trophy. SeeHer Majesty's Shipfor more on this. The reason for this is that "The Her Majesty's Ship" is an awkward phrasing in English. It is commonplace to refer to ships bearing other prefixes, such as "USS" standing for "United States Ship", as (for example) "The USS Enterprise", but the equivalent usage in British Commonwealth navies is considered poor style. --Pete(talk)05:59, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Talk:Carrara, Queensland(Apr 2021)
[edit]I don't quite understand why you added the photo request template as the article appears to have some photos. Generally if the article has photos but they aren't sufficient for whatever reason, what you need to do is be explicit in the request as to what extra photos are wanted. E.g. {{reqphoto|in=Gold Coast|of=statue of Bugs Bunny}} If an article only has historic photos, I often put {{reqphoto|...|of=present day}} If you aren't explicit with the request when the article has photos, someone (probably using automated tools) will pretty quickly remove the request.Kerry(talk)01:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- The request for photos was in the 'To do' list on theTalkpage forCarrara, Queensland, but was not going to come up in theGold Coast Citylist. Will delete, but helps me when I am passing these suburbs and can get a few more photographs, e.g. the school. –Q8682(talk)02:38, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Road to Kokoda (1942 film) (Jun 2021)
[edit]Thanks for the comments and revisions on this page (The Road to Kokoda;corrected from student'swork). I have put constant effort into this student and their work (even the personal info on the user page, students are asked not to do this). I admit it is fraught, I really do. The semester is now complete and so I do not expect he will come back to the project.Carrolquadrio(talk)01:03, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Rollback rights (Oct 2021)
[edit]Hi Q8682. After reviewing your request, I haveenabledrollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when using rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installingTwinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revertclearcases ofvandalismonly, and notgood faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used toedit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, seeWikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback(even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on mytalk pageif you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing!Beeblebrox(talk)19:35, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Categories (handling of) (Feb 2022)
[edit]Hello, Q8682,
Please do not remove all of the contents from categories so they are tagged for speedy deletion. Doing so is called emptying categories "out of process" and is strongly discouraged. Please do not do it again. If you believe a category should be merged, renamed or deleted, please propose it atCategories for Discussionso that other editors can offer their feedback and opinion. That's how changes in categorization are handled on Wikipedia. Thank you.LizRead!Talk!06:19, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Thailand women's national goalball team (Jul 2022)
[edit]Thisarticlewas reviewed (twice) in New Page Patrol. It is tagged as needing additional references. What is needed are references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which areWP:RS;that is your guide. You may also readWP:PRIMARYwhich details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide isWP:SOURCES... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you. --Whiteguru(talk)02:41, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

SES
[edit]Good morning,
Regarding this edit to the QFES article[1],I was under the impression (based on official statements) that the transition is taking place on 1 July, along with the formation of MRQ.Nford24(PE121 Personnel Request Form)20:59, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- For the SES, the transition commenced on Mon 03 Jun 2024, and must be completed by the end of the month. For theState Emergency Service Act 2024(Act No. 19 of 2024), 'I, DR JEANNETTE ROSITA YOUNG AC PSM, Governor, fix 3 June 2024 for the commencement of the provisions of the Act that are not in force'. It becomes aseparate unitunder the command of the Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service from that date, andhostedby the QPS. SES personnel will now be subject to QPS vetting and discipline. MRQ also commenced to exist as of Mon 03 Jun 2024, but thetransitiondoes notcommenceuntil Jul 2024. The new Queensland Fire Department does not existuntil01 Jul 2024, with theFire Services Act 1990.–Q8682(talk)10:05, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
