Ushio, Inc.(ウシオ điện cơ chu thức hội xã,Ushio Denki Kabushiki-gaisha)is a Japanese company headquartered inTokyo.It was established in 1964, and its main business is inlighting equipment.

History[edit]

Ushio, Inc., was established in 1964 from the electric lighting department of Ushio Industrial, Inc., which had grown in 1916 asHimejiElectric Bulb Company, out of a department ofChūgokuGōdō Denki, owned jointly by the predecessor companies ofKansai Electric PowerandChūgoku Electric Power.Ushio moved its headquarters fromHimeji, Hyōgo Prefecture,toTokyoin 1971, while retaining its main research & development center in Himeji.

Ushio, Inc. is headed by its Chairman Jirō Ushio (Ngưu vĩ trị lãng,1931- ), who was the chairman of the influentialJapan Association of Corporate Executivesbetween 1995 and 1999,[5]and was the president of Japan Productivity Center (Nhật bổn sinh sản tính bổn bộ) between 2003 and 2014. Ushio Industrial, Inc., was named after his father, Kenji Ushio (Ngưu vĩ kiện trị,1898-1958),[6]a native of Himeji like his son.

Ushio was listed in theSecond Section of Tokyo Stock Exchangein 1970, and in the First Section in 1980.[7]

Ushio entered the European market in 1985, with the foundation ofUshio Europe B.V.,which is located inOude Meer,the Netherlands.[8]

Ushio's main business is inlighting equipment,fromhalogen lampsto more sophisticated digital lighting and video processing equipment.[9]In 1992, Ushio bought theChristie group of companiesin U.S, a company known for their digital cinema projectors.[10]
