Valdres March (Norwegian:Valdresmarsjen) is the title of a Norwegianmarchcomposed byJohannes Hanssenin the years 1901-1904[7]and published by Boosey & Hawkes. The main theme is based on the signature fanfare for the Valdres Battalion,[7]which is based on an old cow call.[8]The following second variation includes ahallingfromHelgelandsmoen,a small village inHole,Ringerike.[8]The melody of the trio section was Hanssen's self composedHardanger fiddle"slått", which is apentatonicfolk tune, above a drone bass line.[7]When the piece was first performed in 1904, the composer played thebaritone hornpart together with the band of the 2nd Regiment of Norway.[9]
