Valeria Carla Federica Bruni Tedeschi,also writtenBruni-Tedeschi(Italian pronunciation:[vaˈlɛːrjaˈbruːniteˈdeski];born 16 November 1964[1]), is an Italian and French[2]actress, screenwriter and film director. Her 2013 film,A Castle in Italy,was nominated for thePalme d'Orat the2013 Cannes Film Festival.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Bruni Tedeschi was born inTurin,Italy,[4]in thePiedmontregionof Italy. Like her younger sister,Carla Bruni,she has settled in France. The girls were raised bilingually, as their family moved to Paris in 1973, fearing kidnappings and, later, the terrorism of theRed Brigades.She holds Italian nationality and acquiredFrench nationalitybynaturalizationon 31 July 2006.[5]Her mother is Italian with French ancestry. Her father is Italian.[6]She is a second cousin ofAlessandra Martines.[7][8]Tedeschi had a relationship with the French actorLouis Garrelfrom 2007 to 2012. Together they adopted a girl, Oumy, fromSenegalin 2009.[9][10]Allegedly, Bruni Tedeschi is in a relationship with French actorSofiane Bennacer as of 2022.[11][12][13]

[edit]She was present at the 2005Berlinale,the Berlin International Film Festival, to promote two films she had acted in:Tickets(2005), a three-segment film directed byErmanno Olmi,Abbas Kiarostami,andKen Loach,andCrustacés et Coquillages,a comedy directed by the French duo ofOlivier DucastelandJacques Martineau.
She also played a lead role in the short filmDrugstore(2000),[14]as part of a French anti-drug awareness raising campaignDrug Scenes(Original French title:Scénarios sur la Drogue), directed by Marion Vernoux based on a script byEric Ellena.[15]

Directing
[edit]Her debut film as a director,It's Easier for a Camel...,earned her two awards at theTribeca Film FestivalforEmerging Narrative FilmmakerandBest Actressin 2003.[16]The film also won an award at theAnkara Flying Broom Women's Film Festivalin 2004.[17][18]It was also awardedLouis Delluc Prizefor Best First Film.[19]It was also entered into the25th Moscow International Film Festival.[20]According to Tim Palmer the film is an engaging example of contemporary French pop-art cinema, referring to directors who wittily merge the features of intellectual/arthouse cinema with mass/popular cinema, putting Bruni Tedeschi in the company of other filmmakers such as François Ozon, Maîwenn le Besco,Sophie Fillières,Serge Bozon, etc.[21][promotion?]
In 2007, Bruni Tedeschi directedActrices,which won thePrix Spécial du Juryat the2007 Cannes Film Festival.Her 2022 filmLes Amandiers (Forever Young)also premiered in the main competition of the2022 Cannes Film Festival.[22]
