Ruteis a populated area, asocken(not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[3]It comprises the same area as theadministrativeRute District, established on 1January 2016.[4]

Geography

Rute is situated on the northeast coast of Gotland.[5]Rute comprises several of the smaller islands off the coast of Gotland, such asFurillenandSkenholmen.Along the coastline areVallevikenharbor and beach as well asLergravfishing village.Inland is the north part ofLake Fardume(Fardume träsk), at 3.5 km2(1.4 sq mi) it is the third largest lake on Gotland afterLake BästeträskandLake Tingstäde.[6]ThemedievalRute Churchis located in Rute.[7]

As of 2019,Rute Church belongs to Bunge-Rute-Fleringeparishin Norra Gotlandspastorat,along with the churches inBungeandFleringe.[8][9]

One of theasteroidsin theasteroid belt,10106 Lergrav,isnamedafter Lergrav in Rute.[10]
