Vettar River
TheVettar RiverorVettaaruis a river in theKaveridelta that flows through theThanjavur,Tiruvarur,andNagapattinam districtsof theIndianstate ofTamil Nadu.
Course[edit]
The Vettar is a distributary of theVennar River,and begins northwest ofThennankudiat the Thenperambur dam in Thanjavur district. The Vettar branches off to the northeast, while the Vennar continues to the east.[1]The river flows to the north ofMelattur,before turning to the southeast as it passes to the south ofValangaiman.North ofKoradacheri,it turns back to the northeast, passing to the north ofThiruvarur.A distributary of the Vettar, theOdampokki Riveroriginates nearEnganvillage and flows through Thiruvarur.[2]After passing Engan, the Vettar continues flowing to the east, through Nagapattinam district, before it empties into theBay of Bengalin the town ofNagorenearKaraikal Port[3]
