Victor Vladimirovich Goryunovis a Russian mathematician born in 1956. He is a leading figure inSingularity theory,whose contributions to the subject are fundamental.He has published several books and a variety of papers insingularity theory,finite type invariants,andLegendrian knots.Many of his papers inLagrangianandLegendrian geometryare now considered to be classical in the subject.

Goryunov completed hisPh.D.thesis, titled "Surface projection singularities",atMoscow'sLomonosov State Universityin 1981, under the direction ofVladimir Arnold.He is currently a Professor of Mathematics at theUniversity of Liverpool.He is an editorial advisor of the journalProceedings of the London Mathematical Society.
