Vincent Chetail

Vincent Chetailis a legal scholar and professor of public international law specializing in internationalmigration lawandrefugee lawat the GenevaGraduate Institute of International and Development Studiesin Switzerland.[1][2]He is also a senior research associate at theUniversity of London's Refugee Law Initiative.[3]

Chetail has held numerous visiting professorships, including atHarvard Law School,theUniversity of Paris XI,Sciences Po,theHague Academy of International Lawand theEuropean University Institute.[4]He has been called by his peers "a leading expert on migration"[5]and one of the "luminaries" of the discipline of international migration law.[6]He started his academic career as an associate professor of public international law at theGenevacampus ofWebster University.[7]

Chetail holds a PhD from theParis-Panthéon-Assas University,a master's from theGraduate Institute of International and Development Studiesand a bachelor's in law fromJean Moulin University Lyon 3.[1][7]

Career[edit]

Chetail is emeritus editor-in-chief of the academic journalRefugee Survey Quarterly,published byOxford University Press,and member of the Oxford Bibliographies in International Law's founding editorial board.[8][9]He founded the Global Migration Centre, a research center at theGeneva Graduate Institute.[10]In 2019, Chetail became president of the board of theGeneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights,succeedingNicolas Michel.[11]

In 2020, the United Nations'International Organization for Migrationappointed Chetail as an Migration Research and Publishing High-Level Advisers.[12][13]

He is frequently cited in the media for his views on issues offorced migrationin Europe andrefugee law.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
