WPEL-FM(96.5MHz) is anon-commercialradio stationlicensedtoMontrose, Pennsylvania,serving theBinghamtonandWilkes-Barre-Scrantonradio markets.It is owned by Montrose Broadcasting, and airs aChristian radioformat,mixingChristian talk and teachingprograms withChristian music.Much of the programming issimulcastonsister stationWPGO820 AMinHorseheads.The stations hold periodicfundraiserson the air to support the ministry. Thestudiosare on High Street in Montrose.
WPEL-FM has aneffective radiated power(ERP) of 57,000watts.It isgrandfatheredat a higher power than would be permitted today. Most radio stations in Pennsylvania have a maximum power of 50,000 watts. Thetransmitteris offPennsylvania Route 29near Chalker Road in Montrose.[2]

History
[edit]WPEL, a 1,000 wattdaytimerstation, has been on the air since May 30, 1953, and has always aired Christian radio programs. It was founded by W. Douglas Roe. Eight years later, Roe received aconstruction permitto build asister station.
WPEL-FMsigned onthe air on June 5, 1961 .At 57,000 watts, it is one of the region's most powerful radio stations. Located about halfway betweenScranton, PennsylvaniaandBinghamton, New York,WPEL-FM serves a potential audience of more than 800,000 listeners in 16 counties ofNortheastern Pennsylvaniaand New York'sSouthern Tier.It broadcasts a mix of Bible teaching programs, music and newscasts. Theplaylistconsists of traditionalhymns,instrumentals,worship musicand classicadultcontemporary Christian music,along withclassical musicmixed in during the station'safternoon drive.
WPEL-FM began streaming its programming on line on April 17, 2008.
