WAOA-FM(107.1MHz) is acommercialradio stationlicensedtoMelbourneand coveringFlorida'sSpace Coast.Owned byCumulus Media,it broadcasts atop 40 (CHR)radio format.It calls itselfW A OneA,named after Coastal Florida highwayState Road A1A.Theradio studiosand offices are on West Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne.

WAOA-FM has aneffective radiated power(ERP) of 100,000watts,the maximum power for non-grandfatheredFM stations. It can be heard as far north asDaytona Beach,as far west asWinter Havenand far south asPort St. Lucie.Itstransmitteris in Melbourne, on Harlock Road, visible fromInterstate 95.[2]As of October 2007, the station was streamed online viaiHeart Radio.

History

In November 1972, the stationsigned onas WTAI-FM with anadult contemporary musicformat. It briefly aired abeautiful musicformat in 1978. Then on July 10, 1978, it changed itscall signto WLLV, and its format toContemporary Christian music.On February 24, 1984, the call sign was switched to WVTI, and the format flipped toCHR.[3]

On December 15, 1989 the station changed call signs again, becoming WAOA, and changed its format toHot AC.It adjusted to regular AC in 1996, then back to CHR in 2002, a year after the station was bought by Cumulus.[3]WAOA became the current WAOA-FM on June 29, 2000, when sister A.M. stationWLZRbecame WAOA.[4]

WAOA-FM is often ranked #1, the most-listened-to radio station in the Cocoa Beach-Melbourne-TitusvilleNielsen Audiomarket.
