WNNL(103.9FM) is anUrban Gospelformatted station serving theRaleigh–Durhammetropolitan region. Owned byRadio OnewithWQOKandWFXC/WFXK,"The Light 103.9"is "The Triangle's #1 Station for Inspiration" and home to theYolanda Adamsmorning show. Its studios are located in Raleigh and its transmitter site is in Fuquay-Varina, the station's city of license.

WNNL broadcasts two channels in theHD Radioformat.[3]

History[edit]

WAKS-FM was acountrystation inFuquay-Varina, North Carolina,and sister station toWAKS (1460 AM)when it signed on in 1981. In 1987 the station becameeasy listeningWAZZ. In 1989 the station moved toCary, North Carolina,and began playingsmooth jazzas WNND "The Wind".[4]

After financial problems, WNND was sold toClear Channel[5][6]and switched to aclassic hitsformat, with the call letters WZZU, previously used by what is nowWNCB.The current format began in October 1997 on WZZU andWDUR.[7]

Clear Channel owned WNNL,WFXC,WFXKandWQOKuntil 2000 when the stations were spun off toRadio Onefor Clear Channel to meet ownership caps following their acquisition of AMFM.[8]
