WXCT’s power is 5,000watts.By day, it isnon-directional,but at night, to avoid interfering with other stations on1370 AM,it switches to adirectional antenna.[2]Thetransmitteris located in theMoccasin Benddistrict in Chattanooga. In addition to the AM signal, WXCT is heard on 99-wattFM translatorW254DBat 98.7MHz.[3]
History
[edit]On December 31, 1940, the stationsigned onasWDEF.It originally broadcast at 1400kilocyclesand was moved to 1370 in the late 1940s. It has long been thesister stationtoWDEF-FMand was co-owned withWDEF-TV,before the TV station was spun off to other owners in 1990s.
On October 30, 2016, WDEF changed itscall signtoWXCT.[4]It had beensimulcastwithcountry musicstation 97.3WUUQ.
On November 14, 2016 at 8 a.m. WXCT dropped the WUUQ simulcast and changed its format toadult album alternative,branded as "Alt 93.9." It began a simulcast onFM translatorW230CNat 93.9 FM.[5]
On September 1, 2017, WXCT changed its FM translator frequency from 93.9 MHz to 98.7 MHz, asW254DBand rebranded as "ALT 98-7."
