Welschnofen(German:[vɛlʃn̩ˈoːfn̩];Italian:Nova Levante[ˈnɔːvaleˈvante]) is acomune(municipality) in the autonomous province ofSouth Tyrolin northernItaly,located about 15 kilometres (9 mi) southeast of the city ofBolzano.

The escutcheon isparty per quarterly:the 1st and the 4th represent anorrampant liononsable,the arms of the JudgeBartlmä von Pretzenbergwhich has had an estate in the municipality. In the 2nd and 3rd quarter anazuremountain is surmounted by anargentpretzelsongules.The emblem was adopted in 1967.[3]
Geography[edit]
As of November 30, 2010, it had a population of 1,910 and an area of 50.8 square kilometres (19.6 sq mi).[4]
The municipality includes the village of Karersee, named after the nearby alpine lake by the same name,Karersee.
Welschnofen borders the following municipalities:Karneid,Moena,Deutschnofen,Predazzo,Sèn Jan di FassaandTiers.

According to the 2011 census, 94.00% of the population speak German, 5.53% Italian and 0.47%Ladinas first language.[5]
