White River (Vermont)

TheWhite Riveris a 60.1-mile-long (96.7 km)^[1]river in theU.S. stateofVermont.It is atributaryof theConnecticut River,and the namesake of theWhite River Valley.

The White River rises at Skylight Pond south ofBread Loaf Mountainnear the crest of theGreen Mountains.The river flows east to the town ofGranville,where it receives the outflow from the southern portion ofGranville Notch.The river then turns south and, followed byVermont Route 100,flows through the towns ofHancockandRochester.EnteringStockbridge,the river turns northeast and, followed byVermont Route 107,flows to the town ofBethel,where the Third Branch of the White River enters from the north. The Second Branch and the First Branch of the White River also enter from the north as the river flows throughRoyalton.

From Royalton to the river's mouth, the valley is occupied byInterstate 89andVermont Route 14.Flowing southeast, the river passes through the town ofSharonand enters the town ofHartford,where it reaches the Connecticut River at the village ofWhite River Junction.
