A big task

[edit]

Place theWikiProject Bangladeshbanner on the DISCUSSION (aka "TALK" ) PAGE of everyBangladeshandBengalrelated entry. Here is how to do this:

  1. Go toCategory:BangladeshorCategory:Bengal. These pages will not have all Bangladesh related pages, but are good places to start.
  2. Open a Bangladesh related page (most won't have banners yet).
  3. Open the "Talk" page by hitting the tab at the top of the window.
  4. If the banner is there, do nothing. If not, open the page for editing by hitting the "Edit" tab at the top of the Talk page.
  5. Copy this text -{{WikiProject Bangladesh}}- to the top of the page.
  6. Hit the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

A list of all pages currently with this banner can be found atCategory:WikiProject Bangladesh articles. For a systematic category tree checkWikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Categorization.

You can do more to the {{WikiProject Bangladesh}} banner. For additional information checkTemplate:WikiProject Bangladesh. If an article included inCategory:WikiProject Bangladesh articlesis assessed asBor higher you may try adding {{Portal|Bangladesh}} to the article page, under a section called "See also" or "External links".

Adopt an article scheme

[edit]
For an extensive list of articles pertaining to this project seeCategory:WikiProject Bangladesh articles

Similar to theCollaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, formatting and adding images (if possible) for either anon-existent article, astubor a very short article. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced. If you have adopted an article, please, feel free to add that information here.

Guidelines

[edit]

The goal of Wikipedia is to become a complete, accurate encyclopaedia. The three major content policies (verifiability,no original researchand aneutral point of view) andnotabilitycontain important advise and rules on how to achieve accuracy, so careful fact checking is strongly recommended. Remain objective as possible. The point and ideal of Wikipedia is to create an encyclopaedic neutral body of knowledge. Avoid using the first-person point of view (emphasising the facts; not the editor). Explain the evidence (from the links and references) and explain the reasons of any conclusions. Remember, Wikipedia is not about just writing whatever is true (See:Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not), it is about writing whatever can be verified as truth. SeeWikipedia:Citing sourcesfor why we cite sources, andWikipedia:Citation templatesfor ways of citing sources properly.

Don't over-categorize

[edit]

Having added an article to, say,Category:Massacres in Bangladesh, there's no need to also add that article toCategory:War crimes in Bangladesh,Category:Bangladesh Liberation War,Category:History of BangladeshorCategory:Bangladesh. The category hierarchy expresses the fact that every article about Massacres in Bangladesh is an article about War crimes in Bangladesh and an article Bangladesh Liberation War.

Public domain photographs

[edit]

According toBangladesh copyright act of 2000(covered byThe Daily Star), all photographs enter the public domain after sixty years counted from the beginning of the following calendar year after they were first published (i.e. as of 2011, prior to 1 January 2051). Try to upload as many such images as relevant and tag them with{{PD-Bangladesh}}.

According to theBangladesh copyright act of 2000(covered byThe Daily Star), artistic recreations of public architecture and art work are exceptions to the rights of authors. The Copyright Act provides certain exceptions to infringement. The objective of these provisions is to enable the encouragement of private study and research and promotion of education. Feel free to upload as many such images as relevant and tag them with{{FoP-Bangladesh}}.

Sources

[edit]

The goal of Wikipedia is to become a complete, accurate encyclopedia.Verifiabilityis an important tool to achieve accuracy, so it is strongly recommended to check facts. However, don't be too keen to remove unverified information at the cost of completeness. Wikipedia does not publishoriginal research. Its content is determined bypreviously published informationrather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something istrue, itmustbe verifiable before you can add it. All material inWikipedia mainspace, including everything in articles, lists and captions, must be verifiable. All quotations, and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include aninline citationthat directly supports the material. If no reliablethird-party sourcescan be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article on it.

Levels of references

[edit]
  • Primary sources:Primary sources are original materials.
  • Secondary sources:In scholarship, a secondary source is a document or recording that relates or discusses information originally presented elsewhere. Base articles largely on reliablesecondary sources.(For more information, see thePrimary, secondary, and tertiary sourcessection of the No original research policy, and theMisuse of primary sourcessection of the BLP policy)
  • Tertiary sources:Constitute index and/or textual condensation of primary and secondary sources. Some examples of tertiary sources are almanacs, guide books, survey articles, timelines, and user guides. Depending on the topic of research, a scholar may use a bibliography, dictionary, or encyclopedia as either a tertiary or a secondary source.
