- Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history.The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
- Guild of Copy Editors' editing drive.TheMay 2024 backlog drivewas a one-month-long effort by theGuild of Copy Editorsto reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing: those carrying the{{copy edit}}tag (also{{awkward}},{{copy edit section}},{{inappropriate person}},and{{copy edit inline}},and their redirects) or are listed on theGOCE Requests page.It began on 1 May, 00:00 (UTC), and ended on 31 May, 23:59 (UTC).Stay tuned for the next event.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red2024 Events:WP:WIR/EVENTS- updated monthly
- The 100,000 Challenge.The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two.
- The 50,000 Destubbing Challengeis a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute.

- Several bugs related to the latest updates to the UploadWizard on Wikimedia Commons have been fixed. For more information, seeT365107andT365119.
- In March 2024 a newaddPortletAPI was added to allow gadgets to create new portlets (menus) in the skin. In certain skins this can be used to create dropdowns. Gadget developers are invited to try it andgive feedback.
- Some CSS in the Minerva skin has been removed to enable easier community configuration. Interface editors should check the rendering on mobile devices for aspects related to the classes:

Changes later this week
- Thenew versionof MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 May. It will be on all wikis from 30 May (calendar).[1][2]
- When you visit a wiki where you don't yet have a local account, local rules such as edit filters can sometimes prevent your account from being created. Starting this week, MediaWiki takes your global rights into account when evaluating whether you can override such local rules.[3]
