Wilkowyje(German:Wilkowy) is adzielnica(district) ofTychy,Silesian Voivodeship,southernPoland.It was an independent village and a seat ofgmina,which was absorbed by Tychy in 1951.[1]

History

The village was first mentioned in 1287.

During the political upheaval caused byMatthias Corvinusthe land aroundPszczynawas overtaken byCasimir II, Duke of Cieszyn,who sold it in 1517 to the Hungarianmagnatesof theThurzófamily, forming thePlessstate country.In the accompanying sales document issued on 21 February 1517 the village was mentioned asWlkowicze.[2]

In theWar of the Austrian Successionmost of Silesia was conquered by theKingdom of Prussia,including the village. AfterWorld War Iin theUpper Silesia plebiscite306 out of 347 voters in Wilkowyje voted in favour of joining Poland, against 40 opting for staying in Germany.[3]The village became a part ofautonomous Silesian VoivodeshipinSecond Polish Republic.It was thenannexedbyNazi Germanyat the beginning ofWorld War II.After the war it was restored toPoland.
