William Helms

William Helms(died 1813) was aUnited States representativefromNew Jersey.Born inSussex County,he served during theRevolutionary Waras second lieutenant, first lieutenant, and captain, and wasbrevettedmajor on September 30, 1783. Following the War, he was admitted as an original member of TheSociety of the Cincinnatiin the state of New Jersey.[1][2][3]

Helms was a member of theNew Jersey General Assemblyin 1791 and 1792 and was elected as aDemocratic-Republicanto the Seventh and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1801 to March 3, 1811.[4]He moved toHamilton County, Ohioand died in 1813.
