William Sheffield(c. 1732 – 1795) was an English college head andmuseum curator.[1]

Career

Sheffield wasKeeper(head) of theAshmolean Museumfrom 1772 until his death.[2]He was alsoProvostofWorcester Collegefrom 1777 at theUniversity of Oxforduntil his death, succeedingWilliam Gower.[1]Along with Stephen Long Jacob, aFellowof the college, he was aplantsmanand instrumental in developing 26 acres of newly acquired land at the college, including tree-planting.[3]
