Woestijnvis(literally:Desert Fish) is an independentFlemishtelevision production company based inVilvoorde.

History

The name of the company refers to a famous mistake of a quiz-candidate in the Flemish version ofWheel of Fortune:[1]the remaining letters were W.. ST.. NV. S and the participant answered "WOESTIJNVIS" (Desert Fish), the correct answer was "WOESTIJNVOS" (Desert Fox). The company was founded in 1997 byJan Huyse,Wouter VandenhauteandErik Wattéin close collaboration withMark Uytterhoeven.The company rose to fame with its seriesThe Mole,variants of which were recorded and broadcast in various countries.

Woestijnvis is now part of the holdingDe Vijver Media[nl]which owns theBelgianTV-stationsVIERandVIJF.[2]

Woenstijnvis was also the producer of the session whereby the Holocaust was mocked using Cent Wafers whereafter the Belgian public TV, VRT had to present their excuses.[3][4]
